Whiteville City Schools Calendar
Several local schools operating on two-hour delay Wednesday
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – New Hanover County Schools, Bladen County Schools, Pender County Schools, Brunswick County Schools, Columbus County Schools and Whiteville City Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, Jan. 10.
NHCS stated on their Facebook page that students and staff will operate on a two-hour delay.
Additionally, NHCS announced that “Pre-K students at elementary school sites will follow the elementary school schedule.”
“Pre-K students at stand-alone sites- Johnson, Howe, CRECC, and Mosley will not attend tomorrow. Staff will still report,” NHCS explained in its announcement.
Following New Hanover County School’s decision, Calvary Christian School will also be on a two-hour delay on Wednesday. School will start at 10:30 a.m.
“This will allow buses and private vehicles to have full daylight to observe any hazards in the roadway,” Columbus County Schools stated in a news release. “We will monitor the situation overnight and make any changes needed for student and staff safety.”
According to a Brunswick County Schools news release, employees with the district’s maintenance and transportation departments will conduct inspections of schools, school access roads and bus routes.
“As the storm passes, there is a concern of trees and other debris falling onto roads overnight,” a news release states. “This can be dangerous for buses heading out in the morning before sunrise due to poor visibility.”
Pender County Schools states in a release the delay is to to allow time for staff to assess road safety, and facility conditions as the storm passes.
Bladen County Schools officials say the school system may transition to remote learning if needed.
“We will evaluate conditions again tomorrow morning and an updated announcement will be made by 7:00 AM.,” a Facebook post states.
Whiteville City Schools will operate on a two-hour delay for staff and students.
“Please be safe when traveling on wet roads,” a Facebook post from the school system states.
Brunswick Community College and all campus locations will open at 10 a.m. and classes will move to remote classes where possible, including the Dinah E. Gore Sports & Aquatics Complex and the Odell Williamson Auditorium.
Emereau Bladen Charter School and Classical Charter Schools of Southport, Whiteville, Leland and Wilmington are also operating on a two-hour delay on Wednesday.
The carline for CCS-Southport will begin at 9:30 a.m. with gates closing and the tardy bell ringing at 10 a.m. There will be no morning care for Kinderstop.
