Prince William schools seeking feedback on upcoming academic calendar

Prince William County Public Schools announced the 2024-25 calendar options poll is now available for comment through Oct. 27, giving community members the opportunity to comment on the potential academic calendar for next year.

The three options provided in the poll are as follows:

Option A includes an earlier start date to the school year, an extended winter and spring break and a later end date to the school year.

Option B includes a later start date to the school year, an extended winter break, a regular spring break and a later end date to the school year.

Option C includes a later start date to the school year, a regular winter and spring break and an earlier end date to the school year.

The results of the poll will be presented to the School Board in November, which will make the final decision in December, the school system said.

The annual instructional calendar is 180 days long and must include a four-day Labor Day weekend for students, the county said, though school divisions can begin as early as two weeks before Labor Day.

The division added four holidays in the 2021-22 school calendar and intends to preserve these holidays in the 2024-25 calendar, even if they impact an instructional day.
