Ministry Of Education Announces New School Calendar For 2024

According to PS Belio Kipsang, students will proceed on a three-day half-term break from February 29 to March 3, 2024, before closing the first term. After this, they will then break for a three-week holiday from April 8 to April 26.

The government through the Ministry of Education on Thursday announced that schools across the country will reopen on January 8, 2024.

Education Cabinet Secretary Belio Kipsang, who spoke during the release of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results stated that this will mark the first time that learners are going to study for 3 consecutive terms with three breaks in between.

“We are opening our schools on the 8th of January for the new year,” stated PS Kipsang.

This marks the first time the school calendar system is reverting to the normal cycle following its disruption by the Coronavirus system and the August 2022 general elections.

The Ministry of Education said that the longest term in the school calendar will run for 14 weeks as it begins on April 29, 2024, until August 2, 2024. Students will, however, be given a 3-day mid-term break from June 20, 2024, until June 23, 2024.

The 2023 third term will start on August 26, 2024, until October 25, 2024. Students will break for a long holiday from October 28, 2024, till January 3, 2025. Learners in technical training institutes are also expected to open school on January 8, 2024.

This long holiday will pave the way for the examinations period, with the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) examinations running from October 28-31, 2024.
