ERDC’s patented Ice Mass Balance Buoy, a key tool used in international efforts to gather data for understanding the interaction between sea ice dynamics and the Arctic climate, will be highlighted in the calendar for January 2025.

The image shows researchers from ERDC’s Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory whose work in New Hampshire, Alaska and other cold regions includes monitoring critical changes in ice thickness.

Also chosen for the calendar is an image of ERDC researchers cutting through an icy surface of the Ross Sea in Antarctica to install a buoy for wave measurement.

This effort contributed to studies of sea ice, ocean conditions, snow cover and climate change.

Both photos were chosen from nearly 90 submissions from federal laboratories nationwide following an independent judging process by technology transfer professionals.

ERDC has been recognized by FLC in the annual planner seven times in the last three years.
