Georgia man indicted for first-degree murder for Walton County shooting spree

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. — A 21-year-old man accused of going on a shooting spree in Walton County last year was indicted on several charges, including first-degree premeditated murder, on Friday.

21-year-old Gunner Cole, of Warner Robins, Georgia, was indicted by a grand jury on Friday for one count of first-degree premeditated murder, five counts of attempted first-degree premeditated murder, and six counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle.

Cole is accused of shooting multiple people on and near the Sandestin property back in September 2023, leaving one person dead and multiple people injured.

During the incident, deputies confronted Cole at Heron Walk Drive after receiving calls about him shooting at cars in the area.

Cole was taken into custody after being shot, where he was then taken to a local hospital for his injuries. He was then booked into Walton County Jail.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office says Friday’s indictment is the result of an exhaustive investigative effort by the sheriff’s office’s Criminal Investigations Unit connecting the shooting to the discovery of a body located in a vehicle fire nearby.

“This random act of violence took a man away from his family,” Walton County Sheriff Michael Adkinson said. “We made a commitment that our investigation would lead to further charges and this indictment is our way of making good on that promise.”
