Washington County, Virginia offers free child care during school delays and closures

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Va. (WCYB) — The recent blast of winter weather resulted in schools across the region altering their schedules.

While some districts opted to delay school on various days, some divisions were closed.

Washington County, Virginia Public Schools says it realizes the interruption of daily routines that closures and delays can cause.

That’s why it has been offering free child care. The district says the service is provided as a result of goals the school board adopted last summer.

“One of the things that we are doing new in Washington County this year, is when we do have those schedule changes, like a two hour delay or closing school, we are providing free child care to working families of our elementary and middle school students,” said Keith Perrigan, superintendent, Washington County, Virginia Public Schools.

The district reminds parents to be on the lookout for messaging specific to each individual student and school, when it comes to child care services.
